Suspects Acquitted for Burning Christian homes

An anti-terrorism court acquitted 107 suspects for lack of evidence involved in torching of more than 100 houses of Christians at Joseph Colony in the Badami Bagh area on January 28, 2017 in blasphemy incident in 2013. CLAAS has taken up this case since the day of incident and a panel of lawyers was appearing in the court for proceedings on behalf of Christians of Joseph Colony, Badami Bagh, Lahore.

On March 8, 2013 a case FIR No. 114/13, offence u/s 436/427, 148/149, 397/353, 295-A, 186/324 PPC 7-Anti Terrorism Act was registered against the accused of Joseph Colony who burnt the houses of Christians in which 85 accused were nominated and 22 were added more (totaling 117, out of which 5 were declared out of station and 3 expired during the course of trial).  At present, they all were on bail facing trial in Anti-Terrorism Court Lahore.  During the course of trial, 86 witnesses recorded their statement from complainant side, out of which 65 witnesses recorded their statements in the favor of accused persons whereas six witnesses recorded their evidence against the accused persons.  The case was under proceedings for remaining evidence.
